Phillip E. Hansen, M.D.
Dr. Hansen is Fellowship Trained in disorders of the Shoulder, Elbow and Hand and a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society". He specializes in disorders of the shoulder, elbow and hand at Orthopedic Associates of Dallas since 1984 treating all disorders of the upper extremity, including sports injuries, rehabilitation, arthroscopy, arthritis surgery, trauma and fractures, nerve injuries including carpal tunnel syndrome, joint replacement surgery, on-the-job injuries and other causes of pain or loss of function. His practice is evenly split between the Baylor and the Medical City offices.
His education began here in Dallas graduating from Richardson High School as Salutatorian in 1971. After receiving a BA degree in Chemistry from Rice University (Suma cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) he attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he received his MD degree (Honors, Alpha Omega Alpha) then stayed to complete his Residency in Orthopedic Surgery. New York City followed where he completed a Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery taught by Charles S. Neer II, MD (felt by many to be the father of modern shoulder surgery and the developer of the most commonly used artificial shoulder replacements in use today). Dr. Hansen then traveled south where he completed a second fellowship in Hand Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. He then returned home to Dallas to begin his practice of medicine as an Orthopedic Surgeon.
He has been Clinical Assistant Professor at Southwestern Medical School and active with the shoulder clinics there. He has been on the board of the North Texas Arthritis Foundation and served as the Chairman of their Medical and Scientific Committee for several years helping to direct research dollars here in Dallas and nationwide. He has been a member of theTexas Medical Association since returning to Texas and has served many years as a delegate or alternate delegate representing Dallas and Orthopedics at the state level.
Dr. Hansen is Board Certified for the practice of Orthopedic Surgery since eligible in 1986 and holds a special certificate for the practice of Hand Surgery granted based upon practice experience and certification examination. He is also an Associate Member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society whose stated goals include research and education in the field of surgery of the shoulder and elbow.
His hobbies include fly fishing, bass fishing, auto restoration (currently a 1951 Bentley Mulliner Mark VI), bridge, gardening, and raising 3 teenage kids.
