Dr. Highgenboten is an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in knee and general orthopedics.
Dr. Highgenboten received his Pharmacy and Medical degrees from the University of Iowa in 1961 and 1965, respectively. He completed a rotating internship at the U. S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. His subsequent naval career included service in the Republic of Viet Nam with the 3rd Marine Division followed by service at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California. After completing his naval service, he pursued specialty training, serving his orthopedic surgery residency at the Los Angeles County Harbor General Hospital associated with UCLA and the Orthopaedic Hospital in Los Angeles associated with USC.
Dr. Highgenboten has practiced in Dallas since 1973. He has been instrumental in the development and teaching of arthroscopic surgery techniques, particularly those involving the knee. Dr. Highgenboten emphasizes the treatment of disorders of the knee in his practice along with arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and other joints. Dr. Highgenboten is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of many organizations including the Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Highgenboten, along with Dr. Rutherford, is a member of a small group of orthopedic surgeons from around the nation involved with the development of minimally invasive unicompartmental knee replacement techniques which allow much quicker recovery than seen with typical knee replacement surgery.
